In November 2021, the Delhi government launched a new excise policy with great force, due to which liquor became much cheaper in Delhi and retailers were allowed to give discounts, although the BJP alleged that there was rigging in the distribution of liquor licenses and selected dealers were benefited. By July 2022, the fire became so intense that the Lieutenant Governor asked for a report from the Chief Secretary. On the basis of the report, the LG approved the CBI investigation.
