We had an interaction with a well known actress Swati Verma who has been playing Character Roles in various web series, web films, theatre plays, adds and now starting the work in feature films as well. She is also an accomplished anchor.
Swati Verma an astute HR Professional for 21 years and now in full time acting profession shares her thoughts with us on what are the challenges the new upcoming and aspiring actors face when they choose acting as their only career choice and what may be the solution for the same.
Swati comes from a very rich professional background. She has worked at very senior level in companies like IGL, Zee Entertainment, Amar Ujala and Uttam Toyota. Apart from HR profession she was selected in Indian Army as a Commissioned officer, in 1999. She received President award for marching in NCC Contingent on 26th Jan 1993 on Rajpath. She holds NCC “C” certificate, played Badminton at state level and a Kathak dancer.
Swati expresses her concern for the young and aspiring actors who leave their hometown and shift to cities like Mumbai for their acting career. She says while it is good and encouraging to see that so many kids are choosing acting or some kind of art as their career which gives them internal happiness and doing lot of effort and struggling to reach to their goals. At the same time I feel bad for those who do not get any good opportunities for a very long time. It is very difficult to survive in the cities like Mumbai without having any backup plan or a side profession to earn their livelihood. Kids go through a lot of pressure and anxiety in their mind as to how to survive there. On the one side they have a feeling of self respect to ask for money from their parents and on the other side day to day expenses compel them to take money from parents or to do the work which they do not prefer.
I highly recommend to those kids to have an alternate career option with them which can be related to their own career choice. Develop some other skills through some short terms or part time courses through which they may have some kind of income to sustain.
